Hiking - Monashee Chalet Wilderness Hiking

BLUE RIVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA

“OUR GUEST CHEF WILL PREPARE ORGANIC REGIONAL CUISINE”

SUMMARY

Join us for five days of wilderness hiking in the Monashee Mountains near Blue River, B.C. Experience the magic combination of alpine hiking and locally produced organic cuisine prepared by a professional chef. This backcountry adventure also coincides with the full moon of August.

DESCRIPTION

Monashee Chalet is a unique, family-friendly mountain chalet situated near a beautiful remote subalpine lake. Our day hikes will travel through wildflower meadows dotted with small colourful lakes all situated beneath craggy granite peaks. There is an abundance of wildlife in the area including several bird species, marmots, pikas, black and grizzly bears, and there is always the possibility of seeing the rare Mountain Caribou. The chalet offers something for everyone, and while we have an itinerary, our guests are welcome to just sit, relax, contemplate and enjoy the serenity of the mountains.

INTINERARY

This trip will begin in Blue River, B.C., where we will meet on the day of departure. The drive to the trailhead will take about 45 minutes and travels partly on a gravel forest service road. The hike to the chalet is on a well-constructed trail and takes approximately two hours.

DAY 1 - Meet at the Saddle Mountain Restaurant in Blue River at 9:00 am. Drive to Monashee Chalet trailhead and hike to the chalet where our meals and chef await. Enjoy a fresh hot lunch before we head out on our first half-day hike. Dinner at 6:00 pm.
DAY 2 - Breakfast at 8:00 am. Depart for a full day hike with packed lunch. Guests who may want to have a shorter hike can arrange an earlier return. Many options abound for those who want to spend time just relaxing. Dinner at 6:00 pm.
DAY 3 - Breakfast at 8:00 am. Full day hike with packed lunch to Finn Rock. View a world of peaks!
DAY 4 - Breakfast at 8:00 am. Full day hike with packed lunch to Mica Pass or Marmot Meadows/Robson Ridge.
DAY 5 - Breakfast at 8:00 am. Half-day hike, return for a prepared lunch. After lunch we will pack-up our belongings and hike back to the trailhead.

EXPERIENCE LEVEL

No previous hiking or backpacking experience is necessary. Participants must be fit enough to hike through off-trail terrain for four hours with moderate elevation gain carrying a daypack. This trip is designed to offer the best opportunities for enjoying the mountains in a relaxed atmosphere. We will be backpacking our gear into the Chalet. However, our guests are only required to carry their personal belongings. Our food, safety and emergency gear will be portered to the Chalet ahead of the group. This will allow our guests to have relatively light packs. If you would like to have a lighter load and only carry a day-pack we can arrange a porter for your gear.

WHAT TO BRING

See our gear list section for the complete list of recommended personal items for our hut-based hikes.
